Hi everyone,
Some of your classmates have asked about how to go about retaining all of the information from the visits in preparation for the exams. What we would suggest is that you pick a few examples from each visit of architectural details, statues, paintings, etc that seem important or representative to you. You can then use these examples in the midterm and final to strengthen your argument. This means that you do not have to memorize every detail and anecdote from the visit; instead, you can focus on a smaller number of items and relate them to the themes and questions that are most interesting to you.
Finally, you also want to think about the larger significance of each monument that we visit, which you can get at by thinking about the basic questions of its construction and use: how and why it was built, by whom, where, with whose money, and how it was used by successive groups of people.
Enjoy the Arc de Triomph!
